Suárez Costa convenes the Navigation and Port Council to report on the year's main achievements
The President of the Port Authority, José Benito Suárez Costa, convened the Navigation and Port Council this morning to report on the main achievements of 2023 in the areas of investment, port services, and planning, among other matters.
Among the projects completed this year are the renovation of the electrical installation in the second-tier exporters' departments, the replacement of bollards on the Leirós docks, and the renewal of fenders on the fishing docks.
Regarding current projects, the automation and monitoring of the rail network stands out, a project funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), as well as the resurfacing of various areas of the port. Additionally, the improvement of the sanitation network at the northern fishing dock and the net-drying area is currently out to tender.
Pilotage Service
Suárez Costa also informed the members of the Navigation Council about the current status of this essential service for the port, which now has three pilots registered with the Merchant Marine to serve as pilots in the Port of Marín, following the replacement of two previous pilots who left or were transferred.
Delimitation of Port Areas and Uses
The President of the Port Authority also reported on the publication in June of the Ministerial Order approving the Delimitation of Port Areas and Uses for the Port of Marín. According to the current Ports Law, this document defines the service area, both land and water, necessary for the development of port uses in state-owned ports, the reserve areas that guarantee the possibility of developing port activity, and those areas that can be designated for port-city interaction.
With this document, Suárez Costa pointed out, the Port Authority “has all the updated basic documentation for port planning,” since the Ports Law stipulated the adaptation of the former PUEP (Port Space Utilization Plan) to the new designation.
Planning
The Navigation and Port Council was also informed of the revisions, modifications, and updates made to other important instruments in the areas of port security and sustainability, such as the Port Security Plan, the Internal Emergency and Self-Protection Plan, and the Ship Waste Reception and Handling Plan.
