The President of the Port Authority meets with representatives of cultural groups in Bueu
The President of the Port Authority, Jose Benito Suárez Costa, met this morning with representatives of several social and cultural groups in Bueu interested in the future of the Ons lighthouse. Specifically, spokespeople from the Anduxía environmental association, the PiñeirOns cultural association, and the Os Galos association of friends of traditional boats attended. Suárez Costa explained the Port Authority's interest in promoting a cultural use for the future of the Ons lighthouse that is compatible with its primary function as a navigational aid, and outlined the steps taken so far through contacts with the various administrations involved. The President of the Port Authority noted that this is a great opportunity to open a “direct line of communication that will facilitate the exchange of ideas and suggestions regarding the future project.” Suárez Costa reminded the representatives of the associations of the Port Authority's "unwavering commitment" to the preservation and dissemination of the cultural and historical heritage linked to the sea. The Port Authority has just published a book on the history of maritime signals in the Pontevedra Estuary, entitled "Red to Port," a comprehensive historical study of each of the navigational aids in the Pontevedra Estuary. This book is being distributed to libraries, archives, educational centers, and museums in the surrounding area to make it available to the general public. Furthermore, last year the Authority published a catalog of historical artifacts related to the maritime signaling service.
