The Port Authority, together with the company CTRL4 ENVIRO S.L., has just launched a new intelligent parking space monitoring system so that users can check the occupancy status of parking spaces within the port area via an app. This is a continuation of the Smart Parking pilot project launched in 2023 for the area around Cabomar, where 100 parking spaces are located. The project has been expanded to other areas, especially near cold storage facilities where many workers arrive daily in their own cars. Using Artificial Intelligence, the port area was mapped, and a mobile application provides users with real-time information on occupancy levels to assist them in finding parking. The system is highly visual, providing information on the number of available parking spaces and using a color-coded traffic light system to indicate whether occupancy is currently low or high. The application is called “Apparcamientos pto Marín” and is available for iOS and Android. Information on available spaces is also displayed to vehicles entering the port at the access control points via electronic information panels. With the new system, in addition to the Cabomar area, other areas with a concentration of parking spaces are monitored, such as the Protea and Galfrío zones, the net drying area, the workshop departments, and the repair dock. A total of 13 smart cameras have been installed, capable of detecting occupied and available spaces for a total of 500 parking spots. This new project aligns with the Port's Digital Transformation strategy and the optimization of port infrastructure. The objectives are to monitor parking occupancy levels in real time to optimize traffic management policies within the port, gather more information on traffic dynamics within the port, and improve the satisfaction of users and employees of port companies by providing them with technological solutions.
