The Port Authority delivers copies of the publication "Ons, the Lighthouse's History" to the Marín Town Council for the municipality's library and museums.
This morning, the President of the Port Authority, Jose Benito Suárez Costa, presented the Mayor of Marín with several copies of the publication "Ons, the Lighthouse's History," published by the Port Authority. The book provides an inventory of items related to maritime signaling and safety. They were accompanied by Gerardo Alonso, one of the last remaining active lighthouse keepers assigned to the Port Authority's maritime signaling service. The publication has already been sent to local schools, as well as to libraries and municipal archives in other nearby towns. The book compiles over 40 historical artifacts from the Ons Island lighthouse, thanks to the years of collection and conservation work carried out by the lighthouse keepers of the Port Authority of Marín and Pontevedra Estuary. The catalog includes everything from lighthouse optics to instruments such as smoke detectors, pressure gauges, and rain gauges, as well as the lighthouse's logbooks, including consumption books, account books, and order books. Each item is accompanied by a technical description of its characteristics and functions, with the aim of preserving the tangible and intangible heritage linked to the lighthouse and the lighthouse keeper's profession, in line with the Port Authority's Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
