The Port of Marín has removed 11,440 kilos of marine litter so far this year.
On World Oceans Day, the Port Authority of Marín and the fishing fleet continue their collaboration to remove marine litter from our coasts. So far this year, 11,440 kilos of litter have been removed from the shoreline and seabed. Since 2014, the Port has been actively involved in the effort to keep the coasts clean, and nearly 161,000 kilos of litter have been removed from the sea and brought ashore by fishing vessels. The Port Authority receives this waste, sorts it, and transfers it to a compactor before transporting it to an authorized waste management company. This activity since 2014 is a continuation of previous projects in which the Port of Marín participated, such as “Nothing Overboard” and “Fishing”, which were temporary actions but which the Port Authority decided to maintain in collaboration with the fishing vessel owners of Marín and the company Casercan, thus reinforcing its commitment to sustainable and responsible fishing.
