The Port Authority of Marín awards the contract for the rehabilitation of the Mourisca beacon tower
The Port Authority of Marín has awarded the contract for the rehabilitation of the Mourisca beacon tower to the company Marcor Xove SL, with a budget of 1,483,400.44 euros (plus VAT) and an 11-month execution period. This project addresses a identified need for structural reinforcement of the tower, specifically by strengthening its foundation and its concrete exterior shell. The Mourisca tower stands 13 meters tall and features a green starboard lateral mark with a range of 5 nautical miles. It serves as a vital maritime navigational aid, essential for ensuring safe passage within the estuary (Ría). First lit on September 11, 1923, the Mourisca beacon tower has been rebuilt twice in the past due to damage caused by storms; it is situated in a highly exposed area subject to intense swell. Furthermore, Mourisca—along with the Os Camoucos tower—was among the first maritime aids under the Port Authority to be equipped with a photovoltaic power system for its lantern, replacing the original acetylene gas-powered equipment. Currently, the Port Authority is also finalizing work on the Camoucos beacon tower, another key maritime navigational aid in the estuary. The rehabilitation of these beacon towers involves highly complex maritime construction, requiring the use of a floating barge to support the operations and store materials.
