The port registers a cumulative growth of 15% through September
The Port of Marín continues to register very positive growth in monthly cargo traffic during 2024, with a 15.47% increase between January and September compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching a volume of nearly two million tons, according to provisional data from the Port Authority. By cargo category, solid bulk cargo unloading continues to be the main driver of growth, already exceeding one million tons in the first nine months of the year, with a cumulative increase of 22.31%, especially thanks to the unloading of large volumes of wood, cereals, flour, and animal feed. General cargo (non-containerized) also registered a significant increase of nearly 18%, accumulating close to half a million tons, driven mainly by cargo such as wood and pulp. Regarding containerized cargo, canned goods and other food products, frozen fish, and timber and cork saw significant increases. The number of ships arriving in port also increased by 3.42%, as did their gross tonnage (GT), or total capacity.
