The Board authorizes the provision of services to a new shipping agent
The Board of Directors approved the authorization for a new shipping agent to provide commercial ship agency services in the Port of Marín. The agent is MARÍTIMA SOGOCO S.L.
According to port regulations, this authorization is granted for a period of five years, automatically renewable annually unless expressly waived by the company.
Management Report
In its meeting this afternoon, the Board of Directors of the Port Authority also reviewed the final data from the 2024 management report, which concluded with a throughput of 2,573,093 tons, representing a 21.31% increase and a record-breaking port traffic figure for Marín.
This growth is primarily linked to the movement of wood chips, the increase in pulp, timber, and fruit traffic as conventional general cargo, the growth of agri-food bulk feed and fodder, and general cargo in containers. The total number of merchant vessels in 2024 was 486, representing a 4.5% increase compared to the previous year.
Other management highlights for 2024 include the implementation of an internal control system for financial information, ensuring compliance with the principles of transparency and good governance; a monitoring and implementation plan for the MRR Funds; the execution of the Investment Plan, which includes projects for the automation and monitoring of the port's internal rail network, the renewal of fenders on commercial and fishing docks, and actions related to safety and the environment. During 2024, a Cloud-based ICT Infrastructure Consolidation Plan was also implemented, reducing cybersecurity risks. A Preventive Asset Maintenance Plan was also established for actions related to the upkeep of infrastructure, machinery, and equipment, enabling better resource utilization and reducing human and material risks.
Traffic
The Board was also briefed on the progress of cargo traffic during the first months of this year. Through February, the Port handled more than 400,000 tons, a figure very similar to that accumulated in the first two months of 2024. Containerized cargo has seen the most growth at the start of this year, with a 10% increase in the first two months.
Photovoltaic Panels
The Board approved the authorization for the installation of new photovoltaic panels on the administrative concession held by the Nodosa S.L. shipyard in the port. The panels will be located on the roof of the workshop building and are part of a self-consumption installation designed to improve energy efficiency. This action aligns with the Port Authority's strategic environmental objectives, as it represents a commitment to the use of renewable energy, contributing to sustainable development and significantly reducing energy dependence on more polluting sources.
Canteen Concession
The Council approved granting a 20-year administrative concession to the Marín City Council for the operation of the canteen facilities on the Alcalde Blanco promenade. The facilities occupy an area of approximately 193 square meters, including the cafeteria, terrace, and adjacent land. This initiative is part of the project to revitalize this pedestrian area and improve leisure and recreational services for the public.
