Four vessels simultaneously unloading frozen fish at the Port
Up to four large refrigerated cargo ships are currently operating in the Port of Marín, unloading approximately 3,000 tons of frozen fish. These include the Igueldo, operating at the Manuel Leirós Transversal Quay; the CFL Hunter, at the East Expansion Zone Quay; and the trawlers Monteferro and Montelourido, unloading at the South Commercial Quay 1 and 2 berths. All four vessels originate from the Uruguayan port of Montevideo and fly the Falkland Islands flag. Specifically, the Igueldo is a vessel built in 1989 with a length of 84 meters and a gross tonnage of 2,305 GT. Regarding the CFL Hunter, with a length of 59 meters and 1580 GT, it dates from 2017. Finally, also in 2017, the trawlers Monteferro and Montelourido were built, both with a length of almost 65 meters and 1500 GT, and both constructed at the Nodosa shipyard in the Port of Marín itself. Throughout 2025, the Port of Marín handled more than 130,000 tons of frozen fish in its various forms. The port is a major logistics center for the reception, processing, and distribution of frozen fish, and the companies dedicated to this activity within the port are one of the main economic drivers of the region due to their potential to generate employment in the area. Furthermore, its facilities are highly specialized in handling frozen goods, in a complex that has more than 70,000 square meters under concession for refrigeration activity and a combined refrigerated storage capacity of more than 260,000 cubic meters.
